COVID-19 Impact on SecondTicket and The Mega Pool

It has been six months since the COVID-19 pandemic upended life as we know it. On behalf of the entire SecondTicket crew, our thoughts are with those who've lost loved ones and the citizens on the front lines of our society's response.

There are not many examples of industries being brought to their knees as swiftly and completely as were ticketing, hospitality, travel and other related business sectors. In the first two months of the pandemic, SecondTicket refunded more than twice as many orders due to event cancellations as we had in the previous 13 years. Some concerts and shows that weren't immediately cancelled have already been rescheduled twice. Sports are returning, mostly without fans. Watching an NBA, NHL, MLB or NFL game in an empty stadium is surreal.

Fortunately, SecondTicket remains open. We know there are more important things in your life right now, and it will take a long time for live events to return to their pre-pandemic level, but things are starting to happen. Some teams are doing limited capacity seating with unsplittable or non-transferrable tickets. Outdoor amphitheaters are introducing socially distanced, live concert drive-in shows. And one theater in Massachusetts has already staged what is being called the first professional musical since the shutdown. Strict compliance rules will also be in place, violation of which will jeopardize your admission. So when the time comes, we invite you to step back through the gates of our unique ticket marketplace for the same expert, personal service you've come to expect from SecondTicket. (Please allow additional time for a response as we also prioritize the health and safety of our families.)

Meanwhile, live sports gaming such as fantasy leagues, prediction contests and office pools also came to an abrupt halt in March. For SecondTicket, this matters, because for 13 years, we've enabled fans to save money on tickets and win other cash rewards by hosting a free, multi-sport gaming competition called The Mega Pool. The cancellation of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and MLB's All-Star Game resulted in the cancellations of our Bracket Challenge Ticket Jam and All-Star Ticket Slam. Despite the fact that the NFL is playing games, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Mega Pool's final contest, the Monday Night Ticket Score. The return of sports is encouraging, but variables such as player availability, game postponements and even league suspensions could potentially make gaming disjointed, irregular, and competitively cockeyed.

We hope to resume The Mega Pool in the future. In the meantime, if you have credits on your account, we've extended all expiration dates until the end of 2021 (and we'll consider extending them again at that time).

We hope you and your families are healthy, safe and comfortable. Thank you, and rest assured… we'll save a seat for you.
